What is "Food as Medicine"?
Food As Medicine (FaM) is an approach to health and well-being that uses diet to address disease. Many diseases are a direct result of nutritional deficiencies, virtually everyone is short on at least one major nutrient such as Zinc or Magnesium.
How does it calculate nutrition?
Many nutrition calculation services rely exclusively on the USDA SR Legacy databse, which has data going back to the 1980's. The nutritional content of many foods changes over the course of decades. JuiceAssistant uses the most up-to date data from the Foundation Foods and FNDDS databases, supplementing with the SR Legacy and Branded Food databases to fill in any data missing from the most recent reports.
How does it evaluate Food as Medicine queries?
In addition to the composite USDA database, JuiceAssistant uses a proprietary database to track important nutrients that are not included in the USDA data such as nitrates. Foods are then evaluated for their nutrient content and assigned a score based on the efficacy of their nutrients for treating various health conditions and goals.
Do the nutrition labels meet FDA standards?
Yes, JuiceAssistant instantly generates labels with multiple levels of granularity, all FDA compliant and ready for print.
